In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police seized 10,000 Yaba tablets worth over ₹10 lakh and arrested two youths who were allegedly transporting the narcotics into Agartala city.
Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer Debaprasad Roy and Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station Rana Chatterjee informed that the operation began after the Officer-in-Charge of Ramnagar Outpost received a tip-off two days ago. The information indicated that two youths on a motorcycle were carrying drugs into the city.
Acting swiftly, OC Rana Chatterjee formed a special team and launched a search operation across key areas of Agartala. The police later intercepted the suspects on Gangail Road, leading to their detention and recovery of the large consignment of Yaba tablets.
“We have seized 10,000 Yaba tablets worth over ₹10 lakh. The two accused have been arrested and a case has been registered against them,” the officer said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sujit Dutta and Sumar Sarkar, residents of Bamutia and Kalikapur villages under West District.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals involved in the drug network.
