45 counting centres ready for Village Committee poll results on Oct 5

The Tripura State Election Commission has completed preparations for the counting of votes for the Village Committee elections, with counting scheduled to be held on October 5 across 45 centres, State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen said on Friday.

Polling for the Village Committee elections was conducted on September 28.

According to Sen, counting will be conducted in 44 blocks through 45 counting centres. While one counting hall has been arranged in most blocks, two counting halls will operate in Manu block due to the larger number of seats.

The counting centres will be located either at block headquarters or at other premises identified by the respective Returning Officers. The Commission has made arrangements to ensure a smooth and transparent counting process, Sen said.

Security has also been strengthened at all counting centres. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), along with other security personnel, will be deployed to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident during the counting process.

The Returning Officers will declare the results on a round-wise basis as counting is completed in the respective blocks, Sen said.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission has begun preparations for the forthcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in the state.

Polling stations for 21 urban local bodies have already been finalised, with a total of 783 polling stations identified.

The draft electoral roll for the ULB elections was published on October 1. As per the draft roll, the total number of electors is 6,31,388, including 3,08,983 male voters, 3,22,360 female voters and 45 third-gender voters.

The Commission has invited claims and objections from voters regarding the draft electoral roll. The deadline for submitting claims and objections is October 8.

The final electoral roll for the ULB elections is scheduled to be published on October 15, Sen said.
