The Tripura State Election Commission has ordered a re-poll at polling station 39-Hirapur S.B. School, located under the 17-Pekuarjala–Janmejayanagar (ST) constituency in Sepahijala district, following reports of serious irregularities.

The elections for the 28 seats of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), held on April 12, recorded an 83% voter turnout.

According to an official statement, the Commission took serious note of incidents reported during polling at the affected station. Based on video footage and a report submitted by the observer on duty, it was prima facie found that some individuals attempted to tamper with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), thereby compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

Describing the matter as grave, the Commission reiterated that ensuring transparency, credibility, and fairness in elections remains its highest priority. Exercising its constitutional authority, the State Election Commissioner declared the polling at the station null and void.

Fresh polling has been scheduled for April 16, 2026, between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The Commission has assured that strict measures, including enhanced security arrangements, will be in place to ensure that the re-poll is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

The Commission also appealed to all stakeholders—political parties, candidates, and voters—to cooperate in maintaining the integrity and dignity of the democratic process.
