In a major anti-narcotics drive conducted on Saturday morning, authorities destroyed 36 illegal cannabis (ganja) plantations and two nurseries in the Kamal Nagar and Batadola areas under the Sonamura Police Station in Sepahijala district.

According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, the operation led to the uprooting of approximately 2.6 lakh cannabis plants and saplings, spread across nearly 40 acres of forest land belonging to the Forest Department.

The joint operation involved personnel from Sonamura Police Station, the 81st Battalion BSF (from Deepak, Dhanpur, NC Nagar, Batalav, Matinagar, and Anandpur BOPs), along with officials from the Sonamura and Boxanagar Forest Departments. Members of the 1st and 11th Battalions of TSR (Tripura State Rifles)—including both men and women—also took part.

Das said that such coordinated enforcement actions would continue to curb illegal ganja cultivation and prevent further encroachment on government forest land.
