Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday said that voluntary blood donation like humanitarian initiatives play an important role in building a more compassionate society.
Speaking at the voluntary blood donation camp and health check up camp organised by the Assembly of Journalists (AoJ) at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ H S School in Agartala, CM applauded the initiative of media beyond professional commitments.
Appreciating the event for being part of the initiative, the Chief Minister said the programme carried a message of social responsibility, humanity and compassion. He credited AoJ for coming forward with a humanitarian initiative for the benefit of society.
As part of the programme, the Assembly of Journalists donated five wheelchairs to GBP Hospital, describing the gesture as an effort to support patients and their families.
“Blood donation should be a commitment to saving lives, while humanitarian initiatives should become a strength for building society,” Chief Minister said, stressing the importance of collective efforts to create a more humane and compassionate Tripura.
This was one of the biggest blood donation and health camps held in Tripura in recent times, organised by Assembly of Journalists, with 63 journalists donating blood, caught attention of the state, where more than 200 media personnel attended from different sub-divisions.
Dr Saha said that the media is the watchdog of society, the fourth pillar of democracy and the mirror of society, all of their activities are considered as guiding principle for the society.
He said that social service activities like blood donation by journalists will show a new direction to society, and this initiative is a reflection of their sense of responsibility towards society.
“This idea of people for people is also reflected through blood donation. Great programmes like blood donation should be continued so that no patient faces problems due to a lack of blood. The more people are made aware about blood donation, the more people will come forward to donate blood voluntarily,” said Dr Saha.
Highlighting the journalist-friendly acts of his government, CM reiterated that family pension of journalists has been enhanced to Rs 10,000, from Rs 1,000.
To ensure medical treatment for journalists, they will be included in the Chief Minister's Jan Arogya Yojana.
Workshops are being organized for the professional excellence of journalists. The state government is also constantly working for addressing the issues of media, he said.
Besides journalists and media luminaries, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs, Kiran Gitte, Director ICA Bimbisar Bhattacharya were attended the program.
Speaking about the event guests said, "The AoJ event sets a new milestone for media community, which demonstrates their commitment beyond journalism and we expect such mega and more innovative programs in future."
Meanwhile, Assembly of Journalists General Secretary Shanit Debroy said the organisation would continue to undertake more social welfare activities in the future.
He mentioned the AoJ intends to expand its activities beyond journalism and contribute to society through various humanitarian and community-oriented events.
