Security forces have apprehended a Bangladeshi youth for allegedly entering India illegally through the international border in Tripura’s North district.
The arrest was made on Thursday during a joint operation by Kadamtala Police and personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), 97 Battalion ‘C’ Company. The team was conducting routine patrol duties in the Sonachhari New Tilla area under Satsangam Gram Panchayat when they spotted a man moving suspiciously in Indian territory.
He was immediately detained for questioning. During interrogation, the individual identified himself as Russel Ahmed (22), son of late Yasin Ali, hailing from Goalbari village under Juri Police Station in Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh.
Preliminary findings suggest that he had crossed the India–Bangladesh border without valid authorization and entered Tripura unlawfully. After initial questioning, BSF personnel handed him over to Kadamtala Police.
A case has been registered against him under Section 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, with Kadamtala Police Station Case No. 19/26.
The accused was produced before the district court on Friday after completion of legal procedures. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to ascertain whether others were involved in the illegal crossing.
