In a series of coordinated operations across South Tripura and Sepahijala districts on 20 and 21 November, the Border Security Force (BSF), Customs Sabroom, and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Agartala, seized contraband valued at more than Rs 8.95 crore.

One smuggler was also apprehended during the operations aimed at curbing narcotics and illegal cross-border trade.

According to the BSF, the first operation was carried out on 20 November after specific intelligence indicated the movement of suspected smuggled goods. A joint team of BSF troops and Customs Sabroom set up an operation along NH-08 near the Sabroom–Jolaibari–Matai tri-junction. At around 2010 hours, officers intercepted a vehicle (TR01-AE-1816) arriving from Agartala.

A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of clothing and various consumer items worth ₹73.89 lakh. These goods were allegedly being transported to border areas for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh. The driver was detained, and the seized items were handed over for further investigation.

In a separate major operation on 21 November, BSF and DRI Agartala acted on intelligence inputs regarding a large consignment of Yaba tablets being transported from Agartala toward Bishramganj along NH-08. A Mobile Check Post (MCP) was established to intercept the vehicle.

During checking, a Suzuki Eeco van (TR 01 CH 0353) attempted to flee towards Udaipur via the Bishalgarh Bypass. The joint team launched a pursuit, and the vehicle was later found abandoned near Kalkaliya High School around 0930 hours. The search led to the recovery of 10 packets of Yaba tablets weighing about 10 kg and valued at approximately ₹8 crore, along with 750 boxes of Etaddol 100/Tapentadol 100 mg tablets worth ₹20.32 lakh, and ₹25,400 in cash. The total value of the seizure from this operation amounted to ₹8.21 crore.

In another intelligence-based operation in Sonamura, BSF personnel recovered 1 kg of Yaba tablets, further highlighting ongoing efforts to curb narcotics trafficking along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
