Sensation spread at the ABVP Regional Cancer Centre in Agartala after the body of a patient was found hanging in a hospital bathroom on Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Debbarma, a resident of the Simna Tamakari area. According to family members, Rakesh had been diagnosed with cancer about one and a half years ago and had been undergoing treatment since then.
Family sources said that in the past few days, his physical condition had deteriorated and he had almost stopped eating. Due to his worsening health, he was recently admitted to the cancer hospital for further treatment.
On Saturday morning, Rakesh reportedly went to the bathroom inside the hospital. When the door remained closed for a long time, hospital staff and others became suspicious. After repeatedly knocking without any response, the door was eventually broken open. Inside, Rakesh Debbarma was found hanging.
Following the incident, police arrived at the scene and recovered the body. It has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have started an investigation into the incident and are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death.
