Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday reiterated that strengthening healthcare infrastructure remains a key priority of the state government, stating that there would be no compromise on the development of health services.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while laying foundation stones and performing Bhoomi Puja for three healthcare projects worth Rs 189 crore at Tripura Sundari Sub-Divisional Hospital in Udaipur, Gomati district. The projects include the expansion of Tripura Sundari Sub-Divisional Hospital, the expansion of Gomati District Hospital and the establishment of a Block Public Health Unit.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said the government was consistently undertaking development initiatives aimed at improving public services and ensuring better healthcare facilities for the people.
“Healthcare development is one of the priority areas of our government. We are working continuously to strengthen the state's medical infrastructure, and there will be no compromise in this regard,” he said.
Highlighting Udaipur's historical, cultural and religious significance, the Chief Minister said the town would be developed as a major urban centre after Agartala. He also announced plans to develop satellite towns in Udaipur, Dharmanagar and Agartala as part of the state's broader urban development strategy.
Dr. Saha pointed out that the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, attracts devotees and tourists from across the country. He said the temple's ongoing development and beautification initiatives would further enhance Udaipur's prominence as a religious and tourism destination.
Referring to the PRASAD scheme, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the temple beautification project last year. He added that replicas of the 51 Shakti Peethas were being constructed at the site and that a towering Nataraja idol would also be installed. Facilities designed to provide a peaceful environment for meditation are also being developed.
According to Dr. Saha, the completion of these initiatives would strengthen Udaipur's identity as an important destination for religious tourism, attracting visitors from across India and beyond.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the pace of development projects across Tripura. He said projects worth approximately Rs 1,500 crore had been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid across the state during the previous financial year. During the current financial year, projects worth around Rs 1,300 crore had already been inaugurated or taken up through foundation stone-laying ceremonies.
He further stated that development initiatives worth approximately Rs 260 crore had been inaugurated or launched since the beginning of the Durga Puja period, adding that the government remained focused on delivering development projects for the public.
On healthcare infrastructure, Dr. Saha said new district hospitals were being constructed in Khowai and Sepahijala districts. He also confirmed that initiatives had been undertaken to establish new hospitals in Mohanpur, Jirania and Udaipur.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government would continue to prioritise healthcare infrastructure alongside other public welfare initiatives to improve access to medical services across Tripura.
