Commuters faced severe disruption after a gang attacked a bus in the Lambuchoumuhani area of Kamlapur of Dhalai District, prompting the suspension of both small and large vehicle services from the Radhanagar Bus Stand in Agartala.
The incident comes at a particularly sensitive time, just days before the Holi festival, leaving many passengers stranded and inconvenienced.
According to the Bus Owners Association, services will remain suspended until drivers’ safety can be guaranteed.
Reports indicate that yesterday, a bus bearing registration number TR06154 was traveling from Radhanagar Bus Stand to Komlapur when it was stopped near Manik Bhandar by approximately 25 masked assailants. The attackers allegedly beat both the driver and conductor. Later, when the bus owner arrived at the scene, he too was reportedly assaulted.
In addition to the physical attack, the bus owner’s gold earring and cash from his pocket were allegedly stolen. Several perpetrators have been identified, with a person named Raju Dev accused of leading the attack.
The incident has triggered outrage among bus owners, who have decided to halt services until adequate security measures are in place. Police have launched an investigation into the assault.
Commuters are urged to plan alternative travel arrangements while authorities work to restore normal bus services.
