CPIM and Congress are unlikely to win even a single seat in the upcoming Village Committee elections, BJP state president Abhishek Debroy claimed on Monday, predicting a decisive victory for the BJP-IPFT-led NDA alliance across Tripura.
Addressing reporters, Debroy said the people of the state’s tribal areas had witnessed the performance of the Left Front during its long tenure in power and, according to him, had rejected the politics of the CPIM and Congress.
He alleged that the previous Left regime had failed to bring adequate development to the hill areas and claimed that people had also experienced problems related to political violence, exploitation and extremism.
“The Marxist party and Congress will have no existence in the hills,” Debroy said, asserting that the people would not bring the Left back to power.
Referring to the upcoming Village Committee polls under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, the BJP state president said he expected the CPIM to draw a blank.
“It is my assessment based on my political experience that CPIM will not get even a single Village Committee,” he said.
Debroy also expressed confidence that the BJP and IPFT, as partners of the NDA, would secure a large number of seats in the elections.
He described the Village Committee polls as an important political step ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections and claimed that the NDA would retain power in Tripura with a “huge majority”.
The BJP leader said the election results would demonstrate the people’s continued support for the NDA and its political agenda in the state.
