Acting on confidential information, a joint team comprising personnel from the Sonamura Police Station and the 81 Battalion of the BSF conducted a late-night raid today at Kalapaniya–Shalkhet in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

During the operation, officers apprehended a suspected drug peddler and seized a sizable quantity of illegal narcotics.

According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, the team recovered 30.170 kg of dry cannabis (ganja) concealed inside a blue plastic drum found in the suspect’s possession.

The police also seized a white Hyundai Aura (registration number TR-03Q-0568), which preliminary investigations suggest was being used for transporting narcotics.

“During initial questioning, the arrested individual named several people from the locality who may be associated with the operation,” Das said. He added that further inquiry is ongoing and that anyone found involved will face legal action.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Sonamura Police Station, and investigators anticipate more arrests in the coming days.

The accused, identified as Delwar Hossain (28), is expected to be produced before the court today, where police will seek appropriate remand.
