Under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police apprehended two persons, including a woman drug peddler, and seized a total of 69.95 grams of suspected ganja in separate operations during the past few days.
On November 30, a naka was set up at the 2-Mile check gate to enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the Panchayat and Municipal elections. During the checking, Karson Pait of Dhemaji, Assam, was intercepted, and 14.61 grams of suspected ganja was recovered from his possession. A case under Section 20(b) of the NDPS Act was registered at Pasighat Police Station.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had procured the contraband from a woman at Silapathar in Assam. Acting on this information, the Anti-Drugs Squad, led by SI Johny Tasung and SI Kuncha Tangha, and under the overall supervision of DySP Ayup Boko, conducted a raid on December 2 and arrested Bhanu Chetri alias Gita Chetri of Lakhimpur district, from whom 55.34 grams of suspected ganja was recovered.
Both accused were brought to Pasighat, while the female accused has been placed at the Women Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
Appreciating the successful operation, East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba reiterated the Police Department’s zero-tolerance stance against drug-related offences and called for public cooperation in making the district drug-free.
