Electric vehicle (EV) users in Tripura now have improved access to charging infrastructure with the inauguration of the state’s first CAPEX-based public EV charging station at the Banamalipur Power House campus in Agartala.

The facility has been developed by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) in collaboration with A Plus Charge and has been opened for public use. It marks a significant step in strengthening EV infrastructure in the state.

The newly launched charging station operates on a fully digital, self-service model. Users are required to install a dedicated mobile application, select their vehicle type, complete online payment, and connect the charging gun to their vehicle. The system automatically initiates charging and stops once the selected charge level is reached, eliminating the need for on-site assistance.

The station is equipped with a 30 kW DC fast charger and a 7.4 kW AC charger, enabling it to serve both private and commercial electric vehicles efficiently. Officials said the setup ensures faster, safer, and more convenient charging for users.

Highlighting the initiative, TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu said the corporation is actively working on a long-term plan to promote electric mobility across Tripura. Acting as the nodal agency under the Central Government’s PM E-Drive Scheme, TSECL has already proposed the development of 94 public EV charging stations across the state.

Once implemented, the expanded network is expected to significantly improve charging accessibility in major towns and highways, encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles and supporting the state’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
