Two days after the declaration of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election results, a patrolling team of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) apprehended an active member of the banned militant outfit Tripura United National Front (TUNF) at Damchera in North Tripura district, near the interstate border with Mizoram.

According to police sources, the accused—identified as Vanlal Liana Reang (48), also known as Ornojoy Reang and “Pastor”—was arrested in connection with a case registered at Vanghmun Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.

He was initially detained by personnel of the TSR 13th Battalion during routine patrolling along the Damchera–Kanchanpur road after his movements aroused suspicion.

Upon finding incriminating materials linked to TUNF and confirming his involvement in the case, he was subsequently handed over to Vanghmun Police Station.

Police further revealed that the accused is associated with TUNF, which was allegedly planning acts of sabotage, including bomb attacks targeting police vehicles, with the aim of killing security personnel and looting arms and ammunition.
