Tripura Police have detained a foreign national from the area surrounding Agartala Railway Station for allegedly entering India illegally.
According to Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das of Amtali Police Station, the individual, identified as Austin Ayuk Etta, was apprehended on suspicion while preparing to board a train near the station premises.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth is a resident of Cameroon, an African nation, and had allegedly crossed into India through the Bangladesh border without valid authorization.
During questioning, the detainee failed to produce any legitimate travel or identification documents. As a result, he was taken into police custody.
Police officials confirmed that he will be produced before the court, where they will seek five days of police remand for further interrogation.
A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — Sections 61(ii)(a)/143(ii) — along with Sections 21 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances of his entry and possible connections.
