The mortal remains of former MLA and Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen arrived at Agartala Airport this afternoon. Several dignitaries, including Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and others, were present at the airport to pay their respects.

From Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, the body will first be taken to the Tripura Legislative Assembly building, where ministers, MLAs, and staff will pay their final tributes. After that, the mortal remains will be taken to the BJP party office. His last rites will be performed with full state honours at Dharmanagar.

It may be recalled that on August 8, Bishwabandhu Sen suddenly fell ill while travelling from Agartala to Dharmanagar. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors detected a brain haemorrhage. Due to the critical nature of his condition, he was later shifted outside the state for advanced treatment.

He was undergoing treatment at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru, where hospital sources had earlier informed that he was responding to treatment. However, despite all efforts by the doctors, he could not be saved. Bishwabandhu Sen passed away at 3:30 am last night.

His demise has cast a pall of gloom over the state’s political circles, with leaders across parties expressing deep condolences.
