Acting on a tip-off, police from the East Agartala Police Station conducted a late-night raid in the College Tilla area on Saturday and arrested four individuals for possessing heroin and restricted cough syrup.
The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath, who confirmed that the arrests were made following credible intelligence about rampant drug trade in the locality on Sunday.
During the raid, police initially detained Diptanu Saha from his shop in College Tilla and recovered heroin and cough syrup bottles from his possession. Based on his interrogation, three more individuals were subsequently arrested for their alleged involvement in the narcotics trade.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and they will be produced before the court today.
Speaking to the media at East Agartala Police Station on Sunday, OC Subrata Debnath stated that the anti-narcotics operation will be intensified in the coming days.
“Our mission is to make society drug-free. The police will continue regular raids and take strict action against all those involved in drug trafficking,” Debnath said.
Police sources indicated that similar operations are being planned across the city to dismantle the growing drug network.
