The West Agartala police have arrested four people in connection with the tension that erupted in the Border Gol Chakkar area yesterday evening.

Authorities have refrained from disclosing the names of the detainees, citing the ongoing investigation.

According to police sources, the unrest began with an argument between two individuals over a trivial matter, which soon escalated and created tension in the locality. In connection with the incident and subsequent vandalism of a shop, two separate cases were registered, leading to the arrest of four individuals.

To prevent further escalation, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed to the area at night and conducted a flag march to restore normalcy.

Addressing a press conference at the West Agartala Police Station today, Additional Superintendent of Police (Additional SP) Dhruv Nath clarified that the incident stemmed from a general dispute and had no communal or organized links.

“Yesterday’s incident was just a general dispute. Some quarters tried to divert it to other sectors, but the situation was quickly brought under control due to timely police action,” Nath said.

He further assured that peace and order have been restored in the area and that police remain vigilant to prevent any further disturbances. The arrested individuals are being interrogated, and more people may be summoned if necessary. West Police Station OC Rana Chatterjee was also present at the press briefing.
