The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has issued a show-cause notice to its Boxanagar MLA, Md. Tafajjal Hossain, after he publicly criticized senior party leaders — MP Biplab Kumar Deb and former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik.
The notice directs Hossain to respond within five days, explaining why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him.
The controversy erupted following Hossain’s remarks during the final match of the MLA Cup Football Tournament 2025 at Boxanagar Mini Stadium in Sepahijala district on Friday. Addressing the gathering, Hossain accused Deb and Bhoumik of ignoring his repeated requests for funds from their respective MP development grants for the construction of the stadium’s northern gallery.
“We elected them to power. I personally approached Pratima Bhoumik and later Biplab Deb to support the gallery project, but both declined. Only Rajib Bhattacharjee responded positively and sanctioned ₹50 lakh from his MP fund,” Hossain said during his speech.
The event was attended by Tripura BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, who later assured that the party would take appropriate action over Hossain’s comments.
On Sunday, BJP state general secretary Amit Rakshit, in a formal letter, informed Hossain that his public criticism of senior party leaders constituted “gross indiscipline” and a “violation of the party’s code of conduct.”
“As a public representative and responsible member of the party, you are expected to raise grievances through proper organizational channels rather than in public forums. Your remarks have tarnished the image of the party and embarrassed its leadership,” the notice stated.
The letter further directed Hossain to submit a written explanation within five days of receiving the notice. It warned that failure to provide a satisfactory reply would invite disciplinary measures as deemed appropriate by the party leadership.
