A devastating fire broke out in broad daylight destroying the home and belongings of a family in the Samatal Padmabil Hatkata Bazar area of Khowai.
The blaze occurred at the residence of Ajit Shukla Baidya, leaving the family with nothing but ashes. Despite the efforts of two fire engines that battled the flames for an extended period, the house, paddy storage units, and valuable documents could not be saved. The owner estimated the total loss at around ₹15 lakh.
According to local sources, smoke was first seen billowing from the house around 10 a.m. Within moments, the fire spread rapidly to other parts of the house. The two paddy barns located beside the house also caught fire, causing the entire structure to burn fiercely.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the incident. However, fire service personnel and police have launched a joint inquiry to determine the exact cause.
Due to the intensity and swift spread of the flames, the family had no chance to salvage any belongings. Items lost in the fire include important documents, gold ornaments, cash, stored paddy, clothing, electronic appliances, and furniture—virtually everything the family owned.
Upon receiving the report, two fire engines rushed to the site and began firefighting operations. After nearly an hour of effort, the fire was partially brought under control, but by then the damage was irreparable.
Local residents gathered at the scene, expressing deep sorrow and concern as they witnessed the destruction of their neighbor’s home. The sudden disaster has left the family homeless, casting a shadow of grief across the entire locality.
