Search operations continued on Monday for three persons who were washed away in separate incidents after heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Sunday evening.
Teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and police are searching for two men swept away in the Afzal Sagar nala at Habeeb Nagar in the heart of the city. The missing have been identified as Arjun (26) and his relative Ramu (25).
In another incident, rescue personnel are searching for a 24-year-old youth, Dineshh, who fell into a nala at Vinobha Nagar in Secunderabad’s Musheerabad area after the retaining wall he was sitting on collapsed.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan visited Habeeb Nagar, inspected the nala, and reviewed rescue efforts. Families of the missing have appealed to the government for assistance, saying they have lost their breadwinners.
Wall Collapse at Construction Site
Separately, a worker was killed and four others injured when a wall of an under-construction convention hall collapsed in Vattinagulapally under Gachibowli Police Station limits. The deceased was identified as Sekhar Mandal (24). One of the injured workers is reported to be in critical condition.
Techie Killed in Road Mishap
In another tragic incident, a woman software engineer was killed and seven of her colleagues injured when their car overturned on the Outer Ring Road near Abdullapurmet on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Sowmya Reddy, an employee of Infosys. The group of IT employees was returning to Hyderabad after visiting the Sarala Maisamma Temple at Choutuppal when the mishap occurred. Police suspect overspeeding led to the driver losing control of the vehicle. A case has been registered.
Heavy Rains Paralyse City
Hyderabad and Secunderabad, along with parts of Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts, received up to 12 cm of rainfall on Sunday evening. The downpour inundated major roads and brought vehicular traffic to a standstill in several areas.
