The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Tripura, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next two days.

According to the IMD, a trough extending from Jharkhand to West Assam, along with a cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southern Uttar Pradesh, is influencing weather across the northeastern region.

These conditions are expected to trigger isolated thunderstorms in Tripura on March 20–21, with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 50 kmph and light to moderate rainfall at a few locations.

The IMD has specifically cautioned that gusty winds could reach 40–50 kmph in some areas. Residents are advised to take precautions such as securing loose structures, avoiding open fields during storms, and keeping up with the latest weather updates.

Authorities have been urged to stay vigilant for possible disruptions to outdoor activities, traffic, and power supply. The public is also advised to limit unnecessary travel during the thunderstorms.
