An IndiGo flight operating from Kuwait to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai on Tuesday after authorities received a bomb threat via email warning of an explosive device on board.
Flight 6E1234, an Airbus carrying 228 passengers and six crew members, made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport around 6:30 a.m. Airport officials said Hyderabad Airport authorities first received the threat email early in the morning and immediately alerted Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Following established security protocols, Mumbai airport activated its emergency response system, deploying bomb disposal teams, fire units, and security personnel ahead of the aircraft’s arrival. Passengers were safely disembarked, and a thorough security check was initiated. An official statement from IndiGo is awaited.
Authorities said further details will be shared once the inspection is completed.
The incident comes amid a spate of recent hoax threats targeting flights, schools, and public facilities nationwide. On Monday, a private school in Mira Road, Thane district, received a bomb threat through email, which was later confirmed to be false after an extensive police search.
Similarly, on November 23, a Bahrain–Hyderabad flight was diverted to Mumbai following a bomb threat received by Rajiv Gandhi International Airport — another alert that eventually proved to be a hoax.
Earlier this year, on May 7, Mumbai’s Sahar Airport hotline received a phone call threatening that an explosive had been placed aboard an IndiGo flight. Security agencies launched a full emergency response, isolating the aircraft and evacuating passengers. IndiGo later stated that all safety protocols were followed and reiterated that passenger safety remains its top priority.
