Union Minister and actor-politician Suresh Gopi has received relief after Kerala Police decided not to proceed with a case over allegations of voter list manipulation raised by Congress leader and former Thrissur MP T.N. Prathapan.

The controversy erupted after Gopi’s landmark victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Thrissur — a historic win that opened the BJP’s account in Kerala’s parliamentary representation. He secured the seat by a margin of over 70,000 votes, defeating CPI’s senior leader V.S. Sunil Kumar, while the Congress candidate, K. Muraleedharan, slipped to third.

Following the BJP leader’s win, Prathapan, who chose not to contest the polls after serving as MP from 2019 to 2024, accused Gopi and his brother of forging documents to register votes illegally in Thrissur. He alleged that fabricated records were used to gain an undue electoral advantage.

However, a preliminary investigation by the police found no evidence strong enough to support the charges. Officials said the complainant failed to submit the required documents to substantiate claims of forgery.

“The absence of credible proof prevents us from moving forward with the case,” City Police Commissioner clarified, citing the interim inquiry report.

At the same time, police left the door open for future action, stating that the matter could be revisited if fresh evidence comes to light. “Any further information from the District Administration or the Election Commission will be duly examined, and the case can be reopened if necessary,” the statement read.
