The Cyber Crime Unit of the Tripura Police Crime Branch has arrested a man for allegedly running a fake Facebook account used to post communal and inflammatory content intended to disrupt public peace and harmony.

According to police sources, the case was initially registered at West Agartala Police Station under Case No. 2025WAG122, dated October 22, 2025, invoking Sections 196, 197, 353, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation was later handed over to the Cyber Crime Unit for detailed probe.

Investigators identified a Facebook profile operated under the name Rinki Debbarma, which was found to be fake. Upon tracing the digital footprint, police discovered that the account was being run by a man posing as a woman.

The accused, identified as Sudip Debbarma (41), a resident of Kalyanpur in Khowai district, was subsequently arrested. He was produced before the court, which granted five days of police remand for further questioning.

Officials said further investigation is in progress to determine if others were involved in creating or disseminating similar provocative content online.
