Tripura Police of East Agartala Police Station arrested a man with 500 yaba tablets during a vehicle checking operation in the Dhaleswar area yesterday late night. 

The accused has been identified as Shankhadip Roy, a resident of Dhaleswar Road No. 8 of Agartala city.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station Subrata Debnath said that the incident took place around 8:30 pm when police personnel were conducting routine vehicle checks. Shankhadip Roy was detained after he was seen moving suspiciously in the area. Upon searching him, police recovered 500 yaba tablets from his jacket.

Following the arrest, police also carried out a raid at the accused’s residence. However, no additional narcotic substances were recovered during the search, the OC added.

A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act. According to police sources, Shankhadip Roy will be produced before the court on Saturday, and police will seek five days of police remand for further investigation.
