The Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended a youth on Wednesday afternoon around 2 PM during a special drive at the parking area of Agartala Railway Station with cannabis.
According to RPF officials, the accused has been identified as Delwar Hossain (26), a resident of Nurul Haque Chowmuhani in Urmai area under Sonamura Police Station of Sepahijala district. He is the son of late Tajul Islam.
RPF Officer-in-Charge Raju Bhowmik stated that the accused was intercepted in the area between the RPF post and a “Pay and Use” toilet facility at the station premises. During a search operation, officials recovered 6.005 kilograms of cannabis from a bag he was carrying on his back.
The seized contraband, classified as a prohibited narcotic substance, has been confiscated. The estimated black market value of the recovered cannabis is around Rs 50,000, police said.
The accused is currently being interrogated by the Government Railway Police (GRP). A case has been registered against him under Sections 20(B)(ii)(B)/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985 at Agartala GRPS Police Station, with case number 2026 GRP-024.
Further investigation is underway.
