In a tragic road accident that has left a family devastated, a young man lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a police vehicle in Tripura’s Mohanpur area under West District of Tripura.
The deceased has been identified as Balaram Debnath, a resident of Vivekananda Pally in Shanitola under Mohanpur subdivision. He worked as a public security guard and was the sole breadwinner of his family.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the Agartala–Simna road in the Mohanpur Boalia area amid heavy rain and stormy weather. A police vehicle (Commander Jeep bearing registration TR-01-D-0990) from Sidhai Police Station was on its way from the Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office to the police station. The vehicle was being driven by constable Buddha Sharma and was carrying police and TSR personnel.
At the same time, Balaram was riding his motorcycle towards his workplace near the Sanskrit University. Due to poor weather conditions, a collision took place between the bike and the police vehicle, leading to a serious accident.
Balaram was immediately rushed to Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Health Centre. As his condition worsened, he was referred to GB Hospital in Agartala, where he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The incident has plunged his family into deep sorrow. Balaram is survived by his wife and two young sons—one aged six years and the other just ten months old. With his untimely death, the family has lost its only earning member.
Family members have stated that they will file a case at Sidhai Police Station seeking justice. The tragedy has also raised concerns among locals regarding road safety, especially during adverse weather conditions.
Following the incident, Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ashish Dasgupta and Sidhai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sanjay Laskar visited the bereaved family late at night to offer condolences.
After post-mortem examination at GB Hospital on Saturday, Balaram’s body was handed over to his family.
