In a significant step toward eradicating illegal drug cultivation, Bishalgarh Police launched a massive joint operation this morning, leading to the destruction of nearly one lakh ganja (cannabis) plants spread over 45 to 50 plots in the Bar Kochi and Belbari areas under Bangshibari ADC.

The operation was jointly carried out by officers and personnel of Bishalgarh Police Station, under the leadership of the SDPO, Bishalgarh.

Teams from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and both male and female police personnel, along with local labourers, took part in the drive.

Police sources said the operation was initiated based on specific intelligence about extensive illegal ganja cultivation in the region. The joint team began early in the morning and systematically destroyed the plants across several acres of land.

“This is part of our ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal narcotics cultivation and trafficking in the district,” said a senior police officer. “We are identifying those involved in the cultivation, and legal action will follow as per the NDPS Act.”

Following the operation, a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is in progress. Police have also stepped up vigilance across adjoining areas to prevent recurrence of such illegal activities.

Authorities have appealed to the public to assist law enforcement agencies by sharing information about drug-related activities, emphasizing community participation in keeping the region drug-free.
