The work to convert open drains across Agartala city into covered drains is progressing steadily.
To ensure the quality of construction, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumder, frequently visits various project sites for inspection.
On Saturday, Mayor Majumder inspected the progress of covered drain construction near the Lakshminarayan Bari area in the capital. It may be noted that during the rainy season, the Lakshminarayan Bari locality often faces severe waterlogging. Considering this recurring issue, the initiative to build a covered drainage system in the area was taken.
During the inspection, the Mayor emphasized the urgent need to demolish the old culvert and construct a new one to improve water flow. He directed the concerned authorities to complete the work at the earliest.
Accompanying the Mayor during the visit were Shailesh Kumar Yadav, CEO of the Smart City Project, and other officials.
Speaking to reporters, Mayor Deepak Majumder said, “Waterlogging occurs along the Lakshminarayan Bari road every time it rains, even in front of the Chief Minister’s residence. That is why we inspected the area with the officials today. Three new culverts need to be constructed to ensure faster drainage of rainwater.”
