The official inauguration of the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area was held on Tuesday. The programme was launched by Agartala Mayor and MLA, Dipak Majumder, at a function organized by the West Tripura District Health and Family Welfare Society at the Community Hall in Ward No. 39 (Ashram Para).

The campaign, which began across the state on June 16, will continue until July 31. Speaking at the inaugural programme, Mayor Majumder said that Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets and zinc tablets are being distributed to children aged between zero and five years as part of the campaign. He noted that the initiative has been underway in West Tripura district since June 16, in line with the statewide programme.

Emphasizing the importance of child health, the Mayor said that today’s children are the future of tomorrow and that the state government has been implementing various welfare programmes to ensure their healthy development. He urged parents to become more aware of preventive measures against diarrhoea and help build greater awareness in society to protect children from the disease.

Among those present as special guests were Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta and corporator Prasenjit Lodh. The programme was chaired by corporator Alok Roy.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Medical Officer of West Tripura, Dr. Shankar Roy, informed that nearly 300,000 zinc tablets and around 82,000 ORS packets would be distributed among children aged up to five years across the district. He also advised ASHA workers to ensure door-to-door delivery of ORS packets and zinc tablets to maximize the campaign’s outreach and effectiveness.

The programme aims to strengthen awareness and preventive measures against diarrhoeal diseases among young children and reduce child morbidity through timely intervention and community participation.
