Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir on Monday said he is ready to begin a new political journey, asserting that his soon-to-be-launched party will work for the people of West Bengal and emerge as a key force in state politics.
Kabir, who represents the Bharatpur Assembly constituency in Murshidabad district, is scheduled to formally announce his new party later in the day.
He said his primary objective is to serve the common people of the state, adding that he is prepared to face all challenges to achieve this goal.
“I am happy to give a new message to the people of Bengal. My focus is on working for the common man. Whatever obstacles come my way, I will face them with determination,” Kabir said.
During the launch event, the names of the party’s office-bearers and several district presidents will also be announced. Kabir claimed that his political outfit plans to contest over 100 Assembly seats in the upcoming state elections and expressed confidence that his party would win enough seats to play a decisive role in the formation of the next state government.
He also said the party flag, which will be unveiled on Monday, would soon be visible across the state. “From Kolkata to Cooch Behar, from Darjeeling to Malda, my party’s flag will be flown everywhere. Murshidabad, my birthplace, holds a special place for me, and the flag will definitely be raised here,” he said.
The announcement will be made from Mirzapur near Beldanga, an area that also hosts the site of Kabir’s proposed Babri Mosque. The event is scheduled to begin at noon and continue until 3 p.m.
Kabir said that Al Haaj Haji from West Medinipur, an associate of his, has agreed to take responsibility within the new party and his name will be formally announced during the event. He also revealed plans for a roadshow in Berhampore in the coming days.
Although Kabir has not yet revealed the party’s name, sources close to him said that two options are being considered — the Indian Conservative Party and the Janata Unnayan Party. Regarding the election symbol, Kabir said his first choice is “table,” followed by “twin roses,” adding that a third option would be considered if needed.
Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress earlier this month following repeated disciplinary action by the party leadership. The suspension came shortly before the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the proposed Babri Mosque in Beldanga on December 6. The mosque is intended to mirror the structure that stood in Ayodhya before its demolition in 1992.
