In a significant breakthrough against narcotics smuggling, Tripura Police has announced the seizure of a huge consignment of banned cough syrup following a coordinated multi-agency operation.
According to a press statement issued by Tripura Police, a joint team comprising the Government Railway Police (GRP), West District Police, Customs Department, and the Special Task Force (STF) conducted a meticulously planned raid that led to the recovery of 90,000 bottles of Escuf Cough Syrup (100 ml each, containing Codeine Phosphate). The contraband was discovered in two goods train wagons bearing numbers 31032457043 and 30030010892, stationed at Jirania Railway Station in the West District of Tripura.
The search operation commenced on October 16, 2025, around 4:30 PM, and continued throughout the night, concluding in the early hours of October 17, 2025. The seized items are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 2 crore in the illegal market.
A formal case has been registered at Agartala GRPS under Case No. 104/2025, dated 17/10/2025, invoking Sections 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Tripura Police stated that further investigations are in progress to trace the origin, route, and network behind the smuggling operation. Authorities reaffirmed their unwavering stance against drug trafficking and related criminal activities.
"Tripura Police, in close coordination with other enforcement agencies, remains fully committed to dismantling drug networks and protecting the youth from the perils of narcotics abuse," the statement concluded.
