Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Anurag Garg, held a high-level review meeting with Tripura’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Agartala to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking in the state.

During the discussion, Garg stressed shifting from isolated arrests to a network-focused enforcement strategy aimed at dismantling organized drug syndicates. He highlighted the urgent need to curb illegal cannabis cultivation, which continues to be a major concern in the region.

He also directed officials to focus on identifying and prosecuting key traffickers and kingpins. To enhance legal action against repeat offenders, he recommended invoking the PITNDPS Act as a stronger deterrent.

Emphasizing the use of technology, Garg encouraged agencies to utilize NATGRID for comprehensive investigations, including tracking financial links within drug networks to disrupt their funding sources.

The meeting further underscored the importance of strengthening the ANTF’s capabilities so it can effectively lead anti-drug operations statewide. Officials were advised to make NCORD meetings more result-driven and to use State-level Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) platforms to improve coordination among agencies.
