In a significant move to improve regional connectivity and enhance passenger convenience, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a new stoppage for the Agartala–Silchar–Agartala Express at Pencharthal (PEC) Railway Station in Tripura.

The inaugural flagging-off ceremony was held on Monday at Pencharthal Railway Station in the presence of Smt. Santana Chakma, Hon’ble Minister for Industries & Commerce, Government of Tripura, along with senior railway officials.

As per the new schedule, Train No. 15663 (Agartala–Silchar) will arrive at Pencharthal at 14:01 hours and depart at 14:03 hours. In the return direction, Train No. 15664 (Silchar–Agartala) will arrive at 13:13 hours and depart at 13:15 hours.

NFR officials stated that the addition of the Pencharthal halt marks a crucial step toward strengthening rail services in the Northeast. The new stoppage is expected to provide smoother travel options, improve access to essential rail facilities, and enhance connectivity for residents of North Tripura district and adjoining regions.

Following the ceremony, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma flagged off the event and expressed her gratitude to the central and state leadership through a Facebook post, acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State Veeranna Somanna, and Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha for their support in fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people.

“This new stoppage is a great gift for the people of the four blocks under the Pecharthal area,” she said. “It will make travel easier, promote trade and commerce, and accelerate overall development of the region.” She also thanked the people of her constituency for their continuous support and expressed hope that the new facility would open new opportunities for the entire area.
