The Northeast Frontier Railway has announced the introduction of a new train service between Narangi and Agartala, which will significantly improve rail connectivity between Assam and Tripura.

According to an official notification issued by the office of the General Manager (Operations), Maligaon, the inaugural run of the train will be flagged off from Narangi Railway Station on March 13, 2026 (Friday). The inaugural special train, numbered 05660 Narangi–Agartala Inaugural Special, is scheduled to depart from Narangi at 2:30 PM and reach Agartala at 5:45 AM the following day.

During its journey, the train will halt at several important stations including Jagiroad, Hojai, Lumding, New Haflong, Badarpur, New Karimganj, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Ambassa. The service is expected to benefit passengers travelling between the Barak Valley, hill districts and Tripura by providing improved connectivity and convenient travel options.

The train will consist of 13 coaches, including AC Chair Car, AC Three-Tier, Sleeper Class, Second Sitting and luggage-cum-brake vans, ensuring accommodation for different categories of passengers.

Officials of Indian Railways stated that the regular daily service of the Narangi–Agartala Express will be notified separately after the inaugural run. It is expected that the said train will run daily between Agartala and Narangi and the detailed schedule of the regular service will be notified shortly by the Northeast Frontier Railway.

Railway authorities have also directed concerned departments to give wide publicity about the new service for the benefit of the travelling public. The introduction of this train is expected to further strengthen rail connectivity in the northeastern region and provide a major boost to passenger movement between Assam and Tripura.
