Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives are empowering farmers, strengthening their financial security and helping them move towards self-reliance, said Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday, highlighting the role of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme in supporting the agricultural community.
The Minister was speaking at a state-level programme organised at Prajna Bhawan to mark the release of the 24th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
Addressing the gathering, Nath said the scheme provides registered eligible farmers with financial assistance of Rs 2,000 per instalment, three times a year, amounting to Rs 6,000 annually. He said the initiative has benefited approximately 11 crore farmers across the country, while around 2.85 lakh farmers in Tripura have received assistance under the scheme over the years.
“Through this scheme, around 2.85 lakh farmers in our state have received a total of Rs 1,065 crore so far,” the Minister said.
Referring to the release of the latest instalment, Nath said the Prime Minister had transferred financial assistance to beneficiaries across the country through a direct bank transfer mechanism during a programme held in Banaskantha, Gujarat.
According to the Minister, approximately 9.5 crore farmers nationwide were set to benefit from the 24th instalment, involving a total disbursement of Rs 18,680 crore.
In Tripura, a total of Rs 44.24 crore will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of 2,21,220 eligible farmers under the latest instalment, he said.
Highlighting the district-wise distribution of assistance, Nath said North Tripura has received the highest cumulative amount under the scheme so far, with farmers receiving Rs 194.76 crore. Gomati district stands second with Rs 175.47 crore, followed by Dhalai district, where farmers have received Rs 169.44 crore.
The Minister also highlighted the inclusive nature of the programme, noting that around 300 farmers attended the state-level event, including approximately 30–40 women farmers. Farmers from different sections of society, including Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes, were also present.
Nath said the Prime Minister’s continued emphasis on recognising the contribution of farmers, who play a vital role in ensuring the nation’s food security, was encouraging them to become more self-reliant and contribute to the country’s agricultural progress.
“India is moving steadily towards self-sufficiency in various sectors of agriculture. The Prime Minister wants our farmers to play a leading role in realising the vision of a developed India and helping the country emerge as a global leader by 2047,” he said.
The Minister added that the programme provided an opportunity for farmers and officials to listen to the Prime Minister’s address and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector.
He expressed hope that continued support for farmers through schemes such as PM Kisan would further improve their financial security, encourage agricultural development and contribute to the broader goal of building a prosperous and self-reliant India.
