Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held bilateral discussions with Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodríguez at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, focusing on strengthening cooperation across several strategic sectors.
The talks covered a wide range of areas, including energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy. Both leaders reviewed the current state of India-Venezuela relations and explored new opportunities to deepen bilateral engagement.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Rodriguez and reaffirmed India's commitment to expanding ties with Venezuela. In a message shared on social media, Jaishankar appreciated her longstanding efforts to promote stronger relations between the two countries and expressed confidence that her discussions with Prime Minister Modi would further enhance cooperation.
Rodriguez arrived in India on June 3 for a five-day official visit aimed at advancing bilateral relations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), her visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to the India-Venezuela partnership and open new avenues for collaboration.
The Venezuelan delegation is also scheduled to visit facilities associated with India's energy, pharmaceutical, and automobile industries to better understand the country's industrial capabilities and identify potential areas for future cooperation.
India and Venezuela maintain cordial relations, particularly in the energy sector, where Indian public sector enterprises have invested significantly. New Delhi has expressed interest in expanding its presence in Venezuela's energy market while also broadening cooperation in emerging sectors.
The MEA noted that both countries share a strong commitment to South-South cooperation and the interests of the Global South. Rodriguez's visit is expected to contribute to stronger economic and strategic ties between the two nations.
