Tensions have erupted in South Bhatkhauri as locals protest the recruitment of an Anganwadi worker at the Surma Assembly of the 46th Anganwadi unit in Kamalpur subdivision, Dhalai district, citing political influence and favoritism.
According to local sources, Puja Das, daughter of Prahlad Das, president of the SC Morcha Mandal at Surma Center, was appointed to the Anganwadi worker position following an interview process. Allegations have surfaced that her recruitment was secured through political connections.
Meanwhile, Priya Das, wife of a rickshaw puller and daily-wage worker, who appeared for the interview twice, was denied the position despite assurances from local leaders that she would be selected. Frustrated by the outcome, Priya Das reportedly locked the South Bhatkhauri Anganwadi center in protest.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among residents, who claim that nepotism is affecting even social service positions meant to serve the community. Priya Das expressed her anguish, saying, “I appeared for the interview twice. Everyone assured me I would get the job. In the end, they gave it to the leader’s daughter. Do the poor have no rights?”
Local authorities have yet to comment on the allegations of political interference in the recruitment process.
