Tension gripped the Manu Bonkul area under South District following a series of alleged attacks targeting offices of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) late Monday night.
According to reports, unidentified miscreants set fire to a BJP party office located in Nutan Bazar under Manu Bonkul. The incident triggered widespread concern and unrest in the locality.
The BJP has accused supporters of Tipra Motha of being involved in the arson attack. However, no official response has yet been issued by Tipra Motha regarding the allegations.
On Tuesday morning, BJP Mandal President Bipul Bhowmik, along with other party leaders, visited the site to assess the damage and review the situation. A written complaint has also been lodged with the police, who have initiated an investigation into the matter.
In a related development, another BJP office in the Purana Bazar area of Manu Bonkul was reportedly attacked on the same day. Local sources indicate that sporadic incidents of violence and unrest have been occurring in the area since the announcement of the ADC election results.
Additionally, around 20 rubber trees were allegedly cut down in the plantation of local youth leader Sushanta Mog. In this case too, allegations have been directed toward Tipra Motha supporters.
Despite these incidents, no reports of direct physical attacks on individuals have surfaced so far.
It is worth noting that in the recently concluded ADC elections, the BJP secured victory in the 28-Shilachari Manu Bonkul constituency.
Police have begun a detailed investigation into all reported incidents.
