Residents staged a road blockade on Wednesday on the Chailengta–Chawmanu Bakchhara road in the Longtharai Valley subdivision of Dhalai district, protesting against a severe drinking water crisis in the area.

According to local sources, the residents have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water for the past five days. Although water taps are installed in the locality, there has been no water supply, causing significant hardship for the people.

It is reported that a few days ago, during road repair work, a drinking water pipeline was accidentally damaged. Since then, the water supply to the area has been completely disrupted.

Residents alleged that despite repeatedly informing the concerned department about the issue, no initiative has been taken to repair the damaged pipeline even after five days. As a result, angry locals blocked the Chailengta–Chawmanu Bakchhara road on Wednesday morning and staged a protest.

Due to the road blockade, traffic movement on the road was disrupted and a temporary traffic jam was created. The protesters demanded that the pipeline be repaired immediately and the normal supply of drinking water be restored as soon as possible.
