Widespread outrage has erupted in Uptakhali area under Panisagar sub-division after allegations surfaced that rotten rice and adulterated pulses were being distributed from a local fair price shop.
Locals alleged that substandard food grains have been supplied for the past four to five months.
Food Inspector Ashim Choudhury from the Dharmanagar Food Department visited the site following complaints. However, residents claimed that the officer appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during the inspection.
Later, Choudhury reportedly stated that the matter would be reported to higher authorities and ordered the return of the poor-quality rice.
Subsequently, the Deputy Collector (DCM) of Dharmanagar sub-division also visited the location, expressing shock after inspecting the low-quality food items and immediately directed their replacement.
Residents have questioned how such spoiled food could reach the public through government distribution channels despite supposed monitoring mechanisms. Expressing anger over alleged administrative negligence and corruption, locals have demanded swift and strict action against those responsible.
