Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Saras Mela, tentatively scheduled to begin on 13 December, with the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) outlining an extensive plan to make the event one of the biggest editions yet.

According to TRLM officials, a total of 400 stalls are being set up for the fair. Of these, 335 stalls have been earmarked for Self-Help Group (SHG) didis from Tripura as well as other states across the country. The remaining 65 stalls will be allotted to various line departments, including Police, Health, and Information & Public Relations.

A team led by the CEO of TRLM, along with the SDO (RD) and other officials, inspected the preparations at the Hapania Ground, Agartala, which will serve as the main venue for the event.

To enhance the visibility and reach of the fair, eight large decorative gates will be installed at prominent locations across the city. Additionally, hundreds of promotional posters are set to be displayed across all districts of Tripura.

The two-week-long Mega Saras Fair will bring together SHG women from within the state and various parts of India, showcasing a diverse range of handmade products, textiles, crafts, and local specialties.

In a major announcement, TRLM also revealed that for the first time, a dedicated Food Saras Fair is planned for January 2026. This special edition will host thousands of SHGs exclusively showcasing and selling food items and food-based products, aiming to highlight the culinary entrepreneurship of rural women.

The Saras Mela continues to serve as a vital platform for rural artisans, entrepreneurs, and SHG members, strengthening livelihood opportunities and celebrating women-led economic empowerment across the country.
