Political activity is intensifying ahead of the upcoming by-election in the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency.

Today the scrutiny of nomination papers was completed under tight security at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office.

Returning Officer Debjani Chowdhury stated that all six nomination papers submitted have been legally validated. Around 11 a.m., candidates from various political parties arrived at the office to get their documents verified. After thorough scrutiny, the administration declared all submissions as valid.

The six candidates contesting this election are:

  • Amitabh Dutta of CPI(M) 
  • Jahar Chakraborty of BJP
  • Chayan Bhattacharya of Congress
  • Bibhas Ranjan Das of the ‘Amra Bangali’ party
  • Sanchoy Chowdhury of SUCI(C)
  • Brojolal Debnath, an independent candidate

The Returning Officer further confirmed that all nominations were accepted in compliance with legal provisions. With the scrutiny process now complete, political attention is shifting to the final day for withdrawal of candidature, when it will become clear how many candidates will actually contest the by-election.
