Former Tripura Minister and senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Monday asserted that the CPIM has no political future in Tripura, claiming that supporting the Left party indirectly benefits the BJP.
Speaking at a joining program in Dharmanagar, North Tripura district, where 137 families formally joined the Congress, Roy Barman said the people of the state are now looking to the Congress for change and good governance. The event was attended by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Asish Kumar Saha.
“I want to thank all of you for joining Congress, leaving CPIM. You have realized that supporting CPIM means helping BJP. In this state, CPIM has no future. People have not forgotten the 25 years of their rule in Tripura. People want something new. We have seen both CPIM and BJP governments, and now they want to see Congress in power,” Roy Barman said.
The Congress leader informed that out of the 137 families who joined, 102 came from CPIM while 35 others were from various other backgrounds.
“People now want to hand over the government to Congress. We have been fighting consistently against the fascist BJP, and only Congress can effectively counter them. In every village, Congress has a presence. BJP is misusing the Election Commission and staying in power by manipulating votes. Our leader Rahul Gandhi has exposed this with proof,” he said, adding that Congress is committed to protecting the rights of the poor, minorities, SC, OBC, and ST communities.
Roy Barman also slammed the BJP-led government for its alleged failure to curb the growing drug menace and worsening law and order situation in the state.
“Unemployment is at its peak. There are no new jobs or industries being set up. Over 51,000 government posts remain vacant. Despite being a double-engine government, they have failed to bring investment or create employment. Law and order have completely collapsed, with incidents of gang rape and murder on the rise,” he alleged.
Roy Barman reiterated that the Congress would contest the next assembly election alone and form the government in Tripura for the welfare of its people.
