The situation turned tense in Takarjala under Sepahijala district of Tripura following a clash between workers of the Tipra Motha Party and the BJP during the final day of campaigning for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections scheduled for April 12.

According to reports, an altercation broke out earlier in the day between supporters of the two parties during a campaign event, which escalated into a scuffle, leaving several individuals reportedly injured. Police personnel intervened and managed to disperse the groups and bring the situation under control initially.

However, tensions resurfaced later when a large group of Tipra Motha Party supporters allegedly gathered near the residence of BJP candidate Nirmal Debbarma in Takarjala. Reports suggest that the mob attempted to target the candidate’s house, prompting a strong deployment of security forces in the area.

During efforts to restore order, Sepahijala District Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma reportedly sustained injuries after being struck by slingshot fire while police used lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

Authorities stated that additional forces, including Assam Rifles, have been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order. Security has been tightened as the situation continues to be monitored closely.
