The Tripura Legislative Assembly today paid tribute to Anjel Chakma, a 24-year-old MBA student from Tripura, who tragically lost his life following a violent assault in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, last December.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rampada Jamatia, read out an obituary in the House and led members in observing two minutes of silence in his memory.
Anjel Chakma, a resident of Janardan Para, Machmara in Unakoti district, was attacked on December 9, 2025, in the Selakui area of Dehradun along with his younger brother, Michael Chakma. The attack reportedly followed a confrontation over alleged racial slurs directed at the brothers. Both sustained serious injuries, and Anjel was admitted to Graphic Era Hospital, where he received treatment for 17 days before succumbing to his injuries on December 26, 2025.
Speaker Jamatia expressed profound grief over the loss, describing Anjel as a bright student whose untimely death is a tragic loss for his family and the state. He strongly condemned the assault and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.
Members of the Assembly extended their condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of Anjel Chakma. The session observed a solemn two-minute silence in his honor.
