The Tripura Bar Association has decided to suspend all court work indefinitely in response to serious allegations against the President of the West District Consumer Court, Justice Gautam Sarkar.
The association has set a three-day deadline for the state government to take action regarding his removal.
The decision was made during a meeting attended by Tripura Bar Association President Mrinal Kanti Biswas, Secretary Kaushik Indu, senior advocates Pijush Kanti Biswas and Arindam Bhattacharya, along with other members of the legal community.
According to reports, Justice Sarkar is accused of frequently appearing in court under the influence of alcohol and allegedly consuming alcohol in his chamber. Court staff have also claimed that his conduct while intoxicated has led to inappropriate behavior towards employees. These allegations, reportedly ongoing for a significant period, have caused widespread concern among court staff and members of the legal fraternity.
Senior advocate Pijush Kanti Biswas remarked that similar complaints were raised during Justice Sarkar’s previous postings in Sonamura and Ambassa. He added that judges who fail to maintain ethical and professional standards should not continue in the judiciary.
The state government and court administration are now under scrutiny as the legal community awaits their response to these serious allegations.
