The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organize a statewide ‘Unity March’ program beginning November 10, as part of the nationwide ‘Ekta March’ initiative.
The announcement was made by Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee during a press conference held at the party’s state headquarters on Sunday.
Bhattacharjee said that the march is being organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was born on October 31, 1875, in a farmer’s family in Gujarat. “Sardar Patel played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and in the unification of the country. After independence, he became India’s first Deputy Prime Minister. His contribution to Tripura’s merger with India in 1949 was also significant. At that time, there were efforts to merge Tripura with East Pakistan, but due to the determination of Maharani Kanchanprabha Devi and Sardar Patel, Tripura became an integral part of India,” Bhattacharjee said.
As part of the commemoration, a Unity Run was earlier organized across the state on October 31, which was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, ministers, and MLAs.
Bhattacharjee announced that the Unity March will be held in all 10 organizational districts of the state, with each march covering 8 to 10 kilometers.
The schedule is as follows:
November 10: West Tripura district — from Ujjayanta Palace to Hapania Mela Ground, to be flagged off by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, along with other ministers and MLAs.
November 12: North Tripura and Sepahijala districts.
November 14: South Tripura district.
November 18: Unakoti and Khowai districts.
November 20: Gomati district.
He said the march aims to reinforce the message of “One India, Best India – One Tripura, Best Tripura.” Alongside the march, the BJP will also undertake other programs such as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) and various social outreach activities.
Senior leaders of the state BJP were also present at the press conference.
